MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– Freshman goalkeeper Zach Johnson has been named Rookie of the Week by the BIG EAST after leading the West Virginia University men’s soccer team to a 2-0 record last week. Senior Andy Wright was named to the weekly honor roll after scoring three goals, including the game-winner against Georgetown in overtime.
Johnson made four stops when WVU traveled to Pitt on Oct. 10, to help the Mountaineers to a 3-1 victory. This is the freshman’s third weekly conference honor. Johnson was named rookie of the week on Sept. 10 and goalkeeper of the week on Sept. 17.
Wright scored two goals against Pitt and with just nine second left in overtime, netted the game-winner over Georgetown. The senior has four goals on the season, leading the team.
The Mountaineers continue their home slate when they play host to Navy on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. The match will be the second of three straight home games for WVU, its longest home stint of the season.
