Baseball: Gold Team Takes First Game Of Series

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Gold team of the West Virginia University baseball team defeated the Blue team 13-7 on Oct. 10, in the opening game of the 17th annual Blue-Gold World Series. The fall series will continue today and Friday, and is being held at Hawley Field. First pitch will be at 5 p.m., and the event is free and open to the public.
The Gold team, coached by assistants Bruce Cameron and Casey Bowling and captained by Matt Yurish and Eric Saffell, earned the first win in the three game series. The Gold team had 13 runs on 16 hits without committing an error. Sophomore Billy Gross earned the win from the mound pitching five innings.
The Blue team, coached by assistant coach Pat Sherald with seniors Tyler Kuhn and Brent Lockhart acting as captains of the squad, recorded seven runs on 13 hits, committing three errors.
Saturday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 14, have been deemed rain dates in case of inclement weather.
