| Freshman forward Megan Mischler |
Mischler helped the Mountaineers stay unbeaten in conference play with a 2-0-1 mark following a 1-win, 1-tie weekend. The conference honor is the first of her career and second for West Virginia this season.
The true freshman’s first collegiate goal could not have come at a better time for West Virginia. Mischler found the back of the net to knot the score at one with just under 15 minutes left in Sunday’s match at Syracuse. She provide the WVU offense with a spark off the bench, playing 47 minutes in the two weekend games as WVU out-shot its opponents 48-14.
Other BIG EAST award winners were Connecticut’s Meghan Schnur (Offensive Player of the Week) and Stephanie Labbe (Goalkeeper of the Week), and Notre Dame’s Carrie Dew (Defensive Player of the Week).
Junior Deana Everrett was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll for her efforts in scoring a game-winning goal and assisting on a game-tying goal over the weekend. On Friday, Everrett scored the game-winner against St. John’s in a 2-0 shutout, her fifth goal of the season. On Sunday, the forward took a season-high eight shots at Syracuse and assisted on Mischler’s goal with her team-leading sixth assist.
The Mountaineers return home for a pair of BIG EAST games at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium this weekend. On Friday, Oct. 5, WVU battles Louisville at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 7, West Virginia plays host to Cincinnati at 1 p.m.
