MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia cracked the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Top 25 poll for the first time this year at No. 21, and moved up four spots to 21 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. Both polls were released today.
West Virginia returns to the Coaches’ Poll for the first time since finishing the 2006 season ranked 15th. It is the 14th time the Mountaineers have been ranked in this poll since Coach John Beilein took over the WVU program in 2002.
West Virginia broke into the AP Top 25 last week at No. 25. It is the 18th time the Mountaineers have been ranked by the Associated Press under Beilein’s watch.
WVU travels to No. 22 Notre Dame to face the Irish Tuesday night at 7 pm in a game that will be televised on ESPN2. Beilein has won 16 times against ranked teams at West Virginia with 12 of those victories coming on the road.
West Virginia (13-1) is off to its best start since going 24-1 during the 1981-82 season.
