MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s tennis team opens its 2007 spring season against Morehead State and Akron on Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Ridgeview Racquet Club. The match against MSU will start at 11 a.m. Competition against Akron will follow at 3:30 p.m.
The Mountaineers will be led by first year coach Marc Walters. Walters and the team enjoyed a successful fall season together, winning a total of seven flight titles and sweeping the WVU Martha Thorn Invitational.
The squad, captained by senior Kelly Walsh and junior Natalia Prinz, returns six upperclassmen and welcomes five freshmen. The team looks to duplicate the success it enjoyed during the 2006 season when it won eight of its last 10 matches and beat Syracuse for the first time in school history at the BIG EAST Championship.
The Mountaineers will again play host on Feb. 2 when the Ohio State Buckeyes travel to Ridgeview for a 3 p.m. match.
