MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s swimming and diving team travels to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Shamrock Invitational on Friday, Jan. 26 – Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The Mountaineers will take on host Notre Dame, Penn State and Oakland.
Both the men and women are coming off impressive wins against BIG EAST foe Cincinnati. The 20th ranked men (9-0, 4-0) defeated the Bearcats, 184-132, while the women (7-2, 2-2) dominated their meet, 201-114. Both teams are experiencing one of the best dual meets since the 1970s.
The Mountaineers currently hold 28 of the top 100 times in the nation. Junior Nick Delic leads his team with three top 10 times – the 100 breast (second, 53.17), the 100 free (fifth, 43.40) and the 100 fly (seventh, 47.26).
WVU took on the Nittany Lions in October when it hosted the first dual meet of the season. The men walked away with a win, 137-104, and the women lost, 146.5-96.5.
The team will next take two weeks to prepare for the BIG EAST Championship. The tournament will be held Feb. 14 – Feb. 17 in Uniondale, N.Y., at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The meet is expected to last all day, every day.
