This will be the Mountaineers’ second meeting with the Wildcats in the past two weeks. West Virginia dropped a 70-64 double-overtime decision at Villanova back on Jan. 6. The Wildcats are the only Big East team the Mountaineers play twice this season.
The Mountaineers’ most recent win came on Tuesday night at the Coliseum when they defeated the Seton Hall Pirates, 79-54. WVU is led by center Olayinka Sanni who averages 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. LaQuita Owens, coming off a 20-point game against Seton Hall, chips in 11.8 points per contest. Chakhia Cole rounds out the Mountaineers in double figures with a 10.4-points-per-game average.
Villanova (7-11, 1-4) has struggled recently having dropped their last three games since defeating the Mountaineers. The Wildcats most recent loss came on Tuesday when they fell 56-53 at home against DePaul.
Villanova is led by forward Jackie Adamshick who averages 15.7 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Center Lisa Karcic chips in 12.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest.
If West Virginia (11-7, 3-3) is to stretch their winning streak to four, they will need to buck some significant trends on Saturday. Coach Harry Perretta’s squad has been a monumental thorn in the Mountaineer’s side. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 17-5 and have won 13 consecutive regular season games against West Virginia. Villanova is also 6-4 in games played at the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers’ last win over the Wildcats came in the 2004 Big East Tournament quarterfinals when they pulled out a 58-47 victory.
The game will also be televised live on Fox Sports Pittsburgh, SportsNet New York, Fox Sports New England, Ohio New Network, Time Warner Cable Wisconsin and ESPN Full Court.
Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, Catch 47 Tampa Bay, and Comcast Sports Net Philadelphia will televise the game on a tape-delay basis. Fans can also catch the game on www.bigeast.tv.
