Swimming: Mountaineers to Battle the Bearcats

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s swimming and diving team will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, on Saturday, Jan. 20, to take on the Bearcats in a dual meet at 1 p.m. The BIG EAST showdown will be held at the Keating Aquatics Center.
The Mountaineer men are off to their best start under third year coach Sergio Lopez, going 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Currently ranked 20th, the men are led by junior sensation Nick Delic. The Split, Croatia, native boasts nine individual wins this season and holds the second fastest time in the nation in the 100 breast (53.17), the fifth-best time in the 100 free (43.40) and the seventh-best time in the 100 fly (47.26).
The women’s squad has also enjoyed much success this season. The team (6-2, 1-2) is led by breakout freshmen Kayla Andrews and Kitti Veisz. Andrews, a Newark, Del., native, holds the 17th fastest time in the 100 free (49.71). Veisz, a Budapest, Hungary, native, has two top 20 times of her own: the 200 breast (ninth, 2:14.27) and the 100 breast (13th, 1:02.10).
The Mountaineers will next compete at the Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame on Jan. 26-27. The tournament, set to last all day, both days, will be held at Rolfs Aquatic Center in South Bend, Ind.
