MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team posted its highest team grade point average in team history in the fall semester of 2006.
“It’s great to see that our girls are working as hard in the classroom as they are in the gym,” said coach Linda Burdette, who’s Mountaineers rank 11th in the country.
The 19 members of the squad collectively averaged a 3.41 GPA for the fall semester. A year ago, a team record nine gymnasts were named NACGC Scholastic All-Americans as WVU was one of 13 schools that had at least nine gymnasts with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
The gymnasts awarded were Amie Bouchier, Aimee Brown, Janáe Cox, Alyssa DeSantis, Jaime Gold, Cheryl Goldenfield, Rachel Hardin, Margaret Ann Moore and Kara Weaver. Weaver, an exercise physiology major, led the team with a perfect 4.0 average and was one of 54 gymnasts to do so in the country last year.
Burdette also had 12 gymnasts on the 2006 EAGL All-Academic Team.
