Gymnastics: Cox, Dennis Honored by EAGL

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University gymnasts Janáe Cox and Tynisha Dennis were recognized by the East Atlantic Gymnastics League today for their performances in a home meet against No. 6 Michigan and James Madison on Jan. 12.
Cox was named the EAGL gymnast of the week after winning the all-around with a score of 39.250. For her career, it was her school-record 29th all-around score above 39.00.
The Otisco, Ind., native also took first place in the balance beam with a 9.90. Cox’s beam score marked the 28th time in her career that she had scored a 9.9 or higher in an event. Cox is tied for second nationally in beam while ranking 11th in the country this week in the all-around.
Dennis was also honored by the league as the EAGL specialist of the week. Dennis tied her career-high with a 9.925 on the floor exercise to take first place and took ninth on the vault with a score of 9.725.
The Bowie, Md., native is currently ranked first in the country in the floor exercise leading the Mountaineers, who as a team rank second nationally in that event.
West Virginia (1-1) leads the EAGL standings and now ranks 11th in the country going into this weekend’s meet at Pitt, with Maryland and No. 9 Michigan State.
