MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s track and field coach Jeff Huntoon today announced that 33 of the 43 team members earned a spot on the Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll for the 2006 fall semester.
To qualify for such an honor, student-athletes must earn a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Almost 2,000 student-athletes have qualified for this award since its establishment in 1989.
Of the 33 track athletes on the list, 12 achieved a 4.0 GPA. Those students were: Erica Arthurs, Kathleen Burda, Jamie Cokeley, Maria Dalzot, Kerry Davis, Nicole Dorinzi, Sarah Feathers, Brittany Fink, Mandy McBean, Michele McGinnis, Erica Reib and Alison Spiker.
The Mountaineer track squad traditionally performs well in the classroom. Last year’s team saw 26 members named BIG EAST Academic All-Stars.
The WVU track team will now strive to maintain this year’s academic success as it begins its indoor season on Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Doug Raymond Invitational in Kent, Ohio.
