Tennis: Mountaineers Announce 2006 Fall Schedule

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University tennis coach Marc Walters today announced the team’s 2006 fall tournament schedule.
“The girls are really excited to go out and hit against someone other than themselves,” said Walters, who enters his first year as head coach.
The squad is coming off a strong spring season in which it won eight of its last 10 matches. The Mountaineers return six letterwinners – seniors Ashley Constantine and Kelly Walsh, and juniors Monica Lyskawa, Stacey Percival, Natalia Prinz and Colleen Speaker. The team also boasts five talented freshmen, eager to get in the mix – Gabriela Blaskovicova, Monique Burton, Alexandra Kaluza, Kathryn Klein and Stephanie LaFortune.
“The older girls are really looking out for our new girls,” said Walters. “There is a lot of leadership on this team.”
The team’s season opens with the Eastern Collegiate Invitational on Friday, Sept. 15, at West Point, N.Y. The weekend-long tournament is the first of three that the squad will participate in this fall.
The season will conclude when the squad hosts the 5th Annual Martha Thorn Invite. The invitational will run from Oct. 5-7 at the Mountaineer Tennis Complex in Morgantown, W.Va.
