Volleyball: WVU Falls to St. Francis

LORETTO, Pa. – The West Virginia University volleyball team fell to St. Francis tonight.
The Red Flash (2-4) won the match 3-1 (31-29, 30-21, 28-30, 30-23).
WVU (1-6) suffered a 5-1 deficit early in game one. The Mountaineers battled back to tie St. Francis 9-9. West Virginia kept within three points of the Red Flash until the end of the game. St. Francis pulled out a 31-29 win.
The Mountaineers kept game two close until the score reached 7-6, in favor of the Red Flash. From there St. Francis scored seven consecutive points to bring the game to 14-6, and then followed with a six point scoring run. Game two went to the Red Flash by a score of 30-21.
Game three action saw West Virginia win its first game in five matches. A determined WVU team gave St. Francis everything they had. In a game that was tied nine separate times, the Mountaineers triumphed by a score of 30-28.
West Virginia fell behind 3-9 early in game four. The squad fought back to within one point of St. Francis, but fell short in the end. The Red Flash recorded a 30-23 win in game four.
The Mountaineers were led by libero Aurora Ebert-Santos’ 14 digs. Middle blocker Lisa Hough registered 13 points for WVU.
Next up for West Virginia is a trip to Carbondale, Ill., to participate in the Saluki Invitational Sept. 8-9.
