PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Rutgers tailback Ray Rice, West Virginia running back Steve Slaton, Pittsburgh linebacker Clint Session and Connecticut kicker Matt Nuzie received BIG EAST Conference weekly football honors on Monday. Rice and Slaton share this week's BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Session earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Nuzie was named BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week.
Rice carried the ball 31 times for 201 yards (6.5 avg.) and three touchdowns in a 21-16 win at North Carolina on Saturday. The 31 carries and three touchdowns were career highs. The 201 yards was just 16 shy of his career best set last season versus UConn. Rice has now gone over the 100-yard mark in three consecutive games dating back to last season.
In a 42-10 win over Marshall on Saturday, Slaton rushed for 203 yards on 33 carries (6.2 avg.), to go along with two touchdowns. It was his second consecutive 200-plus yard game. He rushed for 204 yards versus Georgia in the 2006 Sugar Bowl en route to MVP honors. Slaton now has six 100-yard rushing games and five multiple touchdown contests.
In Saturday's 38-13 win over Virginia, Session anchored a Pittsburgh defense which held the Cavaliers to 52 rushing yards and 211 total yards. He posted nine tackles, including two for loss, and returned an interception 78 yards for a touchdown.
In a 52-7 victory over Rhode Island on Thursday, Nuzie tied a career high with seven PATs. In addition to his 7-for-7 effort on PATs, he also added a 41-yard field goal to total 10 points in the contest.
