MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Russ Sharp, West Virginia University associate athletic director for administration and finance, was recently named to the University of West Georgia Athletic Hall of Fame.
Sharp joins West Georgia baseball great Buddy Murphy and football stars Mickey Henderson and Jeremy Clements in this year’s four-member class.
Sharp’s contribution to West Georgia athletics covers a variety of areas over 14 years. He came to West Georgia in 1977, serving as a student trainer. He eventually became the school’s head athletic trainer and director of sports medicine before taking on additional duties, including serving a stint as the school’s golf coach. He was also executive director of the West Georgia athletic booster club and business manger for the entire department.
Sharp later served as Director of Athletics at Centenary College for five years from 1994-1999 before assuming his present role at West Virginia University.
West Georgia’s newest hall of fame class will be officially inducted during halftime ceremonies of the Wolves’ homecoming game on Nov. 4 against North Alabama.
