Cross Country: WVU Finishes 12th at Spiked Shoe

University Park, Pa. – The West Virginia University cross country team placed 12th with 334 points at the Spiked Shoe Invitational Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Penn State Blue Course in University Park, Pa.
Standout freshman Keri Bland was the top Mountaineer runner. Bland finished in 11th place with a time of 22:01.80, 44 seconds out of the top-10. This marks the second week in a row that Bland, a Fairview, W.Va., native, has led the team. Freshman Maria Dalzot followed Bland with a 28th place finish (22:39.25). Fellow freshman Marie-Louise Asselin rounded out the top-three team runners, placing 59th (23:29.50).
Syracuse took the invitational with 64 points behind the running of fifth place finisher Nana Sang-Bender (21:25.60). Jillian Sullivan of Connecticut placed first with a time of 21:04.90.
WVU returns to action Friday, Sept. 29, at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
