MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The No. 7 West Virginia women’s soccer team will open BIG EAST conference play when it hosts rival Pitt on Friday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
WVU will then play its final non-conference game of the regular season at home against No. 21 Virginia on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m.
West Virginia leads the all-time series with the Panthers 8-2, but Pitt pulled a 2-1 upset on the Mountaineers in Pittsburgh, Pa., last season. WVU trails in the series with the Cavaliers 1-5 and hasn’t beaten Virginia since 2002.
Reigning BIG EAST players of the week junior Natalie Cocchi and sophomore Deana Everrett have both been named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week. The publication selects an “Elite Team” based on various outstanding individual performances across the country.
West Virginia (6-0) is off to its best start in school history after knocking off previously-ranked No. 7 Penn State and posting a school record 8-0 victory over St. Bonaventure, last weekend.
The NSCAA’s No. 7 ranking of West Virginia ties for the highest in school history by the poll. The poll also ranked the Mountaineers number one in the Mid-Atlantic region ahead of Penn State (9), William & Mary (18) and Virginia (21).
