Cross Country: WVU Opens Season with Perfect Score

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team opened the season with a perfect score, first place finish at the WVU Open Friday, Sept. 1, at the Agronomy Farms in Morgantown, W.Va.
The squad dominated the race and finished with 15 points and the top six times. West Virginia Wesleyan was a distant second with 48 points.
Clara Grandt, a redshirt freshman for the Mountaineers, finished first with a time of 15:32. Sophomore Alison Spiker followed with a second place time of 15:42. Junior Maria Stover rounded out the top three with a time of 15:46.
“Clara did as expected today and ran from the front,” said head coach Sean Cleary. “I am very excited to see her progress.”
WVU returns to competition on Saturday, Sept. 16, when the team travels to run in the Lock Haven Invitational.
