Volleyball: WVU Travels to Penn State Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Volleyball team travels to State College, Pa., this weekend to participate in the Penn State Invitational, Sept. 1-3.
The Mountaineers (1-2) will first take on Duke (3-0) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The team is 1-6 all-time against the Blue Devils. WVU will open day two action with a 10 a.m. contest against No. 2 Penn State on Saturday. The Nittany Lions, currently 3-0, have dominated past play with the Mountaineers winning all 26 matches. West Virginia will close out the tournament with a 4 p.m. match against Eastern Kentucky (1-2). The Mountaineers and Colonels are tied up in past play, each having won two matches a piece.
WVU is coming off of a 1-2 finish at the West Virginia Classic held at the WVU Coliseum Aug. 25-26. After battling to a 3-2 win over Oakland in game one, WVU fell 0-3 to both Akron and Indiana in day two action.
West Virginia is led by Aurora Ebert-Santos’ 3.50 digs per game. The team averages 11.27 kills per game. Kailee Goold and Tamara De Angelis are the only Mountaineers to have competed in all 11 of the team’s games this season.
