Volleyball: Indiana Too Much For WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team fell to Indiana in the closing match of the West Virginia Classic tonight at the WVU Coliseum.
Indiana won the match 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-26).
West Virginia (1-2) tied game one 2-2 early on. Despite their best effort, they lost 18-30 to Indiana (3-0). Abby Raines led the Mountaineers in game one with four kills. Indiana’s Juli Pierce had a game-high five digs.
WVU came out with fire in their eyes for game two. The Mountaineers led the Hoosiers 6-4 at one point. Juli Peirce’s five digs helped lead Indiana to defeat the Mountaineers 30-20.
West Virginia put up a valiant effort to make game three an intense contest. The score was tied seven times and WVU held the lead by two or more four times. In the end, however, Indiana came out on top. The Hoosiers’ Juli Pierce tallied a game-high six digs to help her team with the win.
Indiana finished first overall in the West Virginia Classic. The Hoosiers were followed by Akron in second place, West Virginia in third place and Oakland in fourth place.
The All-Tournament Team consists of: MVP: Lauren Ditteon (Indiana), Sara Diehl (Indiana), Erica Short (Indiana), Kim Horn (Akron), Jennifer Stewart (Akron), Abby Tevis (West Virginia) and Amanda Morley (Oakland).
Next up for West Virginia is a Sept. 1 trip to Happy Valley, Pa., for the Penn State Tournament.
