Women's Soccer: Soccer America Has WVU at No. 17

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team will open the season rated the No. 17 team in the country in Soccer America’s preseason top 25 poll.
WVU is the fourth ranked BIG EAST school listed by the publication. Defending league champion Notre Dame was ranked No. 6, while UConn was at No. 12 and Marquette was picked one spot about the Mountaineers at No. 16. WVU faces all three schools this season.
West Virginia has already been ranked No. 18 in the NSCAA poll and No. 21 in Soccer Buzz’s preseason poll. The Mountaineers ended the 2005 season ranked 19th in the NSCAA poll after finishing their sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship.
The Mountaineers open the season this weekend at the James Madison Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va. WVU will first face Richmond on Friday, Aug. 25, at 5 p.m., and then play host James Madison on Sunday, at 1:30 p.m.
