MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former West Virginia University standout shooter Patrick Beilein has been invited to play on the Houston Rockets summer league team that is competing July 6-14 in Las Vegas.
The Rockets face the Portland Trail Blazers at 1 pm MT today.
Beilein joins Rockets second-round draft pick Steve Novak of Marquette and rookie forward Chuck Hayes of Kentucky. Other players making up the roster include former Maryland standout forward Lonny Baxter, Notre Dame sharp shooter Pat Carroll, Memphis point guard Darius Washington, Stanford forward Matt Haryasz, former Oklahoma State standout John Lucas III, and five-year NBA veteran Mamadou D’diaye.
Jeff Van Gundy is coaching the team.
The Toshiba Vegas Summer League features a 16-team, 40-game format that stretches over nine days (through July 14). NBATV will broadcast 22 games via tape delay.
Beilein, who plans on playing professionally in Europe next season, averaged 8 points per game and made 67 3-point field goals during his senior season in 2006. The 6-4 guard reached 1,000 points for his Mountaineer career playing for his father John Beilein.
During Patrick’s four seasons at West Virginia, he helped the Mountaineers to a pair of NCAA tournament “Sweet 16” appearances including an “Elite Eight” trip in 2005.
