MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University has uncovered potential rule violations involving its men's soccer program, voluntarily notified the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and is working cooperatively with the NCAA, WVU director of athletics Ed Pastilong announced today.
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics discovered potential rules issues regarding the men’s soccer program in April, 2005. Shortly thereafter, WVU began a joint investigation with the NCAA, which resulted in a determination by the NCAA that several violations may have occurred. WVU will not have any specific comments on the nature of the allegations at this time, as they involve confidential student and personnel information.
“Once the violations were discovered by our compliance staff we voluntarily notified the Big East Conference and the NCAA, then took serious measures to investigate the incidents and to cooperate with the NCAA during the joint investigation,” says Pastilong.
