Wrestling: Rader Named to AWN All-Rookie Team

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University freshman wrestler Brandon Rader was named to the 2006 Amateur Wrestling News all-rookie team, while teammates David Jauregui and Chance Litton were also selected to the team as honorable mentions.
A native of Parkersburg, W.Va., Rader became the wrestling program’s first ever true freshman, and 28th overall, All-American by taking sixth at the NCAA tournament on March 18, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Rader finished the season with a 30-6 record, defeating a total of nine ranked wrestlers and winning an Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) championship. His 30 wins rank tied for first all-time in school history with Shane Cunanan for wins in a season by a 141-pounder and second for victories as a freshman behind current assistant coach Greg Jones’ 34.

Jauregui also enjoyed a solid freshman campaign as he finished 2006 with a 23-7 record. The Santa Ana, Calif., native finished third at the EWL tournament en route to being one of six Mountaineers to qualify for the NCAA tournament.

Rounding out the list of Mountaineers on the team was Litton, who posted a 7-15 recordin a season in which he transitioned to the 184-pound weight class. The Parkersburg, W.Va., native finished second at the WVU Open to highlight his first season at WVU.
