MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – There’s a new way for Mountaineer fans to get behind their football team: Mountaineer Seatbacks. West Virginia University football season ticket holders can purchase a Mountaineer Seatback for $35 per season and watch home football games at Milan Puskar Stadium in style.
West Virginia is one of 11 universities participating in the program, joining Florida, Georgia, Texas, Kentucky, Michigan State, Clemson, Texas Tech, Northwestern and Purdue.
Troy Jones, vice president of Integrated Stadium Seating, says there are a number of ways for fans to purchase their Mountaineer Seatback chair.
“They can call the 800 number (1-800-601-1920) and place their order or they can go to the web site www.mountaineerseatback.com,” he said. “They can also mail in their order on the address provided on the brochure.”
A brochure explaining the benefits of purchasing a Mountaineer Seatback was mailed out with the season ticket application earlier this spring and another brochure will be sent out when tickets are mailed. Jones says fans are not buying a physical chair but instead a service.
“We will install the seatback at their seat location and it stays there the entire season,” he said. “It’s bolted to the bleacher and it will be waiting for them each game when they arrive.
“It designates their seat spot, it provides additional comfort and it shows their team spirit,” Jones said.
Integrated Stadium Seating, formerly known as Integrated Management, Inc., got into the business in 1993 renting seats at Northwestern football games.
“We wanted to see if a new program would work and we basically tripled the amount of seats we did in previous years by going with this new service. It snowballed from there,” Jones said.
Mountaineer Seatback orders ARE NOT being accepted through the Mountaineer Ticket Office, according to Jones.
“We work with them to get everyone’s seat assignments so that’s one of the services we provide for them,” Jones said.
Integrated Stadium Seating will also accommodate gift requests with Father’s Day approaching.
“As long as they know the season ticket holder’s name we can look them up in the data base,” Jones said.
There are about 3,000 Mountaineer Seatbacks remaining. A large percentage of the proceeds will benefit the West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
