Women's Basketball: Hoop Great to Speak at Camp

MORGANTOWN, W.Va -- Motivational speaker and basketball great Archie Talley will lecture twice at the West Virginia University Women’s Basketball Summer Camps on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the WVU Coliseum. Talley’s first lecture will be at the annual day camp from 11:05 a.m. 12:05 p.m., and his second lecture will be at the annual overnight camp 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free. The public is invited to attend.
A native of Washington, D.C., Talley wows his audiences by mixing wit and wisdom with basketball maneuvers he learned as a college star, NBA player, and Harlem Globetrotter. Talley earned a bachelor of arts degree in human relations in 1976 at Salem College in Salem, West Virginia, and later earned a master's degree in education at the same school in 1989. His accomplishments on the hardwood have afforded him legendary status in West Virginia. He led the nation in scoring in 1976 with averaging an amazing 41.1 points a game, this before the 3-point shot was allowed in college hoops. The same year he was named Associated Press College Division basketball Player of the Year and first time All-American. He is the third all-time leading career scorer in Collegiate Basketball history with 3,720 points, and the all-time single season scoring leader in NAIA history with 1,349 points.
Registration is still open for the West Virginia University Women’s Basketball Camp. The day camp is for grades K through 5 and the dates are Thursday, June 8, to Saturday, June 10. The individual overnight camp is for grades 6 to 12, and will take place Saturday, June 10, to Tuesday, June 13. Both camps will be held at the WVU Coliseum.
The price for the day camp is $80 and $55 if you are a WVU employee. The price for individual overnight camp is $270 and $220 if you are a commuter.
