MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team will host the Maryland Terrapins in non-conference action on Tuesday, May 9, at Hawley Field in Morgantown, W.Va. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
Maryland leads the all-time series over the Mountaineers 29-16-1 since the teams first met back in 1899. The two teams met earlier in the season in College Park, Md., with Maryland claiming a 10-8 victory.
West Virginia (30-17, 10-11 BIG EAST) picked up a 10-8 win at Georgetown on Sunday after junior Justin Jenkins hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning. Jenkins is batting .396 and now has 10 home runs with 44 RBI.
Senior left fielder Casey Bowling has also come on to have a great season for the Mountaineers. Bowling is batting .396 with six home runs and 33 RBI in 44 starts.
Maryland (22-30, 8-22 ACC) is coming off a tough weekend at Boston College in which the Eagles took two of three over the Terps. Maryland is led by Dan Melvin, who is batting .332 with five home runs and 25 RBI.
Maryland left-hander Casey Baron (1-5, 5.10 ERA) is expected to get the start for the Terps. Baron will likely face the Mountaineer junior left-hander Brendan Bergerson (3-0, 2.86 ERA), who has 21 strikeouts in 22 innings of action this year.
