GREENSBORO, N.C. – West Virginia’s Jessica Czaikowski placed 13th in the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA East Regional on Friday, May 26, on the Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
The junior from Tottenham, Ontario, finished third in her heat with a time of 13.69. Georgia State’s Sheriee Willis just nipped Czaikowski for second at 13.68 seconds. Willis ended up landing the 12th spot, leaving Czaikowski just one spot outside of consideration for the NCAA Championships.
“Unfortunately for Jessica, she is still battling a strained hamstring that kept her out of the ECAC’s two weeks ago,” head coach Jeff Huntoon said.
The 4x100 relay team of Jamillah Nock, Junique Morris, Shani Boone, and Czaikowski, came into the weekend ranked 11th in region and would place 11th with a season-best time of 45.87.
The final WVU competitor of the day was freshman Raeleen Hunter, who ran in the 800-meter run. Hunter would run a 2:11.56 to place 23rd out of 34 qualified runners at the meet.
Seniors Susan Davis and Jen Hall will compete in the steeplechase and pole vault, respectively, on Saturday. Davis has one of the region’s top steeplechase times in 2006, while Hall’s leap of 3.82-meters qualified her for the Regional meet.
