MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Although The Sporting News 2006 National College Football Yearbook doesn’t go on sale in newsstands until June, the publication has announced its preseason All-America and all-Big East teams.
Senior Dan Mozes was listed as the top center in the country and made the publication’s All-America first team. Sophomore Steve Slaton was listed as the nation’s No. 4 running back and earned second-team All-America consideration.
Other players ranked at their positions include senior Kevin McLee (No. 6 outside linebacker), senior Eric Wicks (No. 7 strong safety), Patrick White (No. 8 quarterback), Owen Schmitt (No. 10 fullback) and Jeremy Sheffey (No. 16 offensive guard).
Making The Sporting News preseason all-Big East first team were wide receiver Brandon Myles, guard Jeremy Sheffey, center Dan Mozes and running back Steve Slaton on offense, and tackle Keilen Dykes, linebacker Kevin McLee and safety Eric Wicks.
The all-Big East second team had Mountaineers Jake Figner and Ryan Stancheck along the offensive line, and Patrick White at quarterback.
West Virginia and Louisville each had seven players listed in the publication’s All-America checklist.
