MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University assistant men’s soccer coach Keith Wiggans saw action as the Charleston (S.C.) Battery’s goalkeeper in a scrimmage against the US National Team on Thursday, May 18, in Cary, N.C.
Wiggans saw all 90 minutes of action against the national team as it continues its preparation for the upcoming World Cup in Germany. Highlights of the Battery’s 5-0 loss, including an interview with Wiggans, can be seen on www.USsoccer.com.
The Athens, Ga., native entered the 2006 season as the backup goalkeeper for Charleston (2-1-1), but after an injury to starter Dustin Hudock in the first game was promoted to the starter role. So far on the season Wiggans has played 270 minutes and allowed three goals in United Soccer Leagues First Division games.
Wiggans was named to the USL Team of the Week for the week of May 16 after his performance in a 3-1 victory over the Montreal Impact.
