MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track team has eight individuals that will travel to compete in the ECAC Championships held in Princeton, N.J., on May 12-14.
“We are looking to take the girls that have qualified for this meet and try to get them to NCAA Regionals,” head coach Jeff Huntoon said. “It’s been a great season thus far, and we just want to add to it.”
Eight individuals will compete in 11 events. Shani Boone and Junique Morris will both compete in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, while Jessica Czaikowski will compete in the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash. Pam Richardson will run in the 400 and Raeleen Hunter qualified in the 800-meter run. Susan Davis will compete in the steeplechase, while Lindsey Clark will compete in the javelin and Jen Hall in the pole vault to round out Mountaineers in competition.
WVU is coming off a ninth place finish with 44 points last weekend at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Storrs, Conn. Czaikowski gave the Mountaineers their only first place finish of the weekend. The Tottenham, Ontario, native won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.42 and also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 11.66.
The 4x100 relay team has flourished this season and owns the eighth best time in the region this year. Czaikowski currently ranks sixth in the region in the hurdles, while Davis is ranked eighth in the region in the steeplechase. Both rank 18th in the nation in their respective events.
The Mountaineers finished in third place last year at the ECAC Outdoor Championships behind two first place finishes from Jen Davis (3,000m) and Jen Kemp (800m). During this past indoor season, WVU was able to capture 11th place with six individual finishes in the top eight spots.
