Women's Tennis: Mountaineers Win Fourth Straight

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The West Virginia University women’s team won their fourth straight match by defeating Villanova, 5-1, on Saturday, April 8, in Villanova, Pa.
“This team has gone through a lot this season,” head coach Dan Silverstein. “The way they’ve fought back to win four in a row shows a lot of determination and character on their part.”
The Mountaineers (7-10, 5-3) got things started with a win from sophomore Monica Lyskawa at No.2 as she defeated Leighann Reilly, 6-3, 6-4. At No.3, sophomore Stacey Percival bettered Jaclyn Williamson, 6-2, 6-2, while junior Kelly Walsh took down Daniella Phillis, 6-0, 6-1, at No.4. Sophomore Colleen Speaker was victorious at No.5 over Lyndsey Lostritto, 6-0, 6-1, while junior Catherine Koontz picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No.6 over Lindsey Puchyr.
Junior Natalia Prinz fell to Candice Carlin by a score of 6-0, 6-3, at No.1
“Natalia played a great match, but Carlin was playing extremely exceptional tennis today.”
With the win over Seton Hall on Friday, West Virginia is now a lock for the BIG EAST tournament.
The Mountaineers play their final match of the weekend tomorrow, April 9, as they take on Rutgers at 10 a.m. in Piscataway, N.J.
