MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University outdoor track team will compete at the historic Penn Relays on April 27-29, in Philadelphia, Pa., for the team’s sixth outdoor meet of the season.
“Hopefully we can put out some top five times this weekend, especially with our relay teams,” head coach Jeff Huntoon said. “And maybe get a couple more NCAA Regional qualifiers.”
The 4x100 relay team continues to make strong strides towards qualifying for the NCAA Regionals in Greensboro, N.C. The group of Junique Morris, Shani Boone, Jamillah Nock, and Jessica Czaikowski have won the relay event five times this season. Last week’s time of 45.92 at the WVU Open was just shy of the Regional qualifying mark of 45.90.
In other action from last weekend, Shani Boone ran a personal-best time of 12.04 seconds in the 100-meter dash while Czaikowski ran a 13.50 in the 100-meter hurdles.
The Mountaineers are anxious to get on the track in decent weather conditions as rain has affected performances at their last three meets. However, 12 athletes have still qualified for the ECAC championships at the end of the season.
“We know we can’t control the weather, but just do the best we can,” Huntoon said.
