Baseball: Longwood Stuns West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team dropped a non-conference battle to the Longwood Lancers 9-2, on Wednesday, April 26, at Hawley Field in Morgantown, W.Va.
Longwood (20-22) starting pitcher Brian McCullough (5-3) pitched a complete game for the Lancers, allowing just two runs in the ninth inning. McCullough held the Mountaineers to just seven hits on the day, while the Lancers scored nine runs on nine hits.
West Virginia (27-14, 7-8 BIG EAST) trailed just 1-0 going into the seventh inning, but Longwood was able to score seven runs on five hits to take control of the game, 8-0. The Lancers would add one more run the eighth before WVU scored its two runs in the ninth.
Starting pitcher Matt Yurish (4-2) earns the loss for West Virginia. Yurish went 6.1 innings, giving up six runs on five hits.
Tyler Childress went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Tyler Ames went 1-for-3 with two RBI to lead Longwood. Jon Quigley and Ryan Rowe also both added a pair of hits for the Lancers.
The Mountaineers return to action this weekend to host BIG EAST opponent Villanova (21-18, 5-9 BIG EAST) in a three-game set at Hawley Field starting Friday, April 28, at 7:05 p.m.
