MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University baseball team hosts Longwood for two games in a mid-week series beginning on Tuesday, April 25, at 7:05 p.m. at Hawley Field in Morgantown.
The series wraps up on Wednesday with a 3 p.m. start at Hawley Field.
WVU (27-13, 7-8 BIG EAST) ended a nine-game losing streak by taking two of three from conference foe Louisville over the weekend. After the Cardinals took game one of a Saturday doubleheader, 6-4, the Mountaineers bounced back to win the nightcap, 10-9. Stan Posluszny then provided late game heroics on Sunday with a home run in the eighth inning and a single in the ninth with two outs to bring home the game-winning run.
Posluszny needs just six homers to break Tim McCabe’s career record of 35 set from 2000-03. The Aliquippa, Pa., native’s 75 career extra base hits also currently ranks fourth all-time in school history and tied for second in career doubles (52).
Adam White continues to lead West Virginia’s offense with a .412 batting average, but senior Casey Bowling has been the one to provide the fire power as of late. The Chapmanville, W.Va., native is batting .371 on the season, .108 higher than his career average, with 30 RBI and five home runs.
The Lancers (19-22) are led by Zach Zigrang at the plate as the infielder is batting .348 with 33 RBI and four home runs. On the mound, Alan Moore has paced Longwood with a 6-3 record and 2.63 ERA.
The two teams have never met before on the baseball field.
