MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 23rd-ranked West Virginia University women’s gymnastics team will host California and Pittsburgh on Friday night at the WVU Coliseum beginning at 7 o’clock.
The Mountaineers (13-6) are competing against Pitt (11-7) for the third time in seven days and against Cal (4-10) for the first time since a loss in the teams’ only meeting in 1996.
West Virginia defeated Pitt on Tuesday night, 194.875-193.325, at the Fitzgerald Field House, four days after the Mountaineers (194.075) placed second and beat the third-place Panthers (season-high 193.5) at North Carolina’s Tar Heel Invitational on March 4.
During Tuesday night’s win at Pitt, the Mountaineers compiled their season-high balance beam score of 48.975, which included three individual season highs by WVU gymnasts.
Junior Janáe Cox is coming off the highest all-around score in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League this season with a 39.45, which included three meet-high scores of 9.9 on balance beam, uneven bars and the floor exercise. Her 9.9s on bars and beam were season highs.
Fourth-year California head coach Cari DuBois is a former WVU assistant coach who served under current WVU head coach Linda Burdette for six seasons from 1996-2002.
