Women's Tennis: Herd Too Much for Mountaineers

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team fell to No. 69 Marshall by a score of 6-1 on Friday, March 3, at the Huntington Tennis Club in Huntington, W.Va.
The Mountaineers (3-5, 2-0 BIG EAST) got the lone victory on the day from No. 6 Raynie Theis. The senior from Bloomington, Minn., defeated Holly Asel, 6-3, 6-2.
In other singles action, No. 1 Monica Lyskawa fell to Lynzee Kever, 6-1, 6-3, while Stacey Percival lost to Kellie Schmitt, 6-4, 6-0, at No.2. Natalia Prinz fell short to Shannon Brown at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1, while No. 4 Colleen Speaker was defeated by Jeanne Schwartz, 6-3, 6-1. No. 5 Kelly Walsh lost to Karolina Soor, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles competition, No. 1 Raynie Theis-Percival lost their match to Kever-Schmitt, 8-4. Prinz-Speaker fell short to Schwartz-Keener at No.2, 8-4, while No.3 Lyskawa-Constantine were defeated, 8-2.
West Virginia returns to the court on Friday, March 10, to face DePaul. The match gets underway at 2 p.m. at the Ridgeview Racquet Club.
