MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University baseball player Stan Posluszny has been named the BIG EAST player of the week for his part in leading the team to four victories last week.
The Aliquippa, Pa., native recorded a .471 average last week in four games to go along with nine RBI, two stolen bases and a home run. The strong week at the plate improved his season batting average to .329 and moved him into a tie with Doug Nelms for the team lead in RBI with 24.
Posluszny tallied two RBI against St. Bonaventure in the team’s win on Wednesday, March 22, and then put together a huge weekend series against Pitt that included seven RBI to guide the Mountaineers to a sweep. In Sunday’s game against rival Pitt, the right fielder belted a grand slam over the right field wall in the third inning to put the Mountaineers up 4-0. He later added another RBI and run scored.
Posluszny needs just 10 more home runs to set the career record for home runs at WVU, currently held by Tim McCabe (2000-03).
West Virginia returns to action today when it hosts Maryland-Eastern Shore at 3 p.m. and wraps up its home stand tomorrow, March 28, when it hosts the Fighting Hawks at 1 p.m.
