Women's Tennis: WVU Loses to Arkansas-Little Rock

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team fell in a tight 4-2 match to Arkansas-Little Rock at the Lady Eagle Classic on Sunday, March 26, in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The Mountaineers (3-10, 2-3 BIG EAST) got two huge doubles wins to start off the match. At No.1, sophomores Stacey Percival and Natalia Prinz teamed up for a 9-7 win over Bourgeon/Robinson. Sophomore Colleen Speaker and junior Kelly Walsh got a big 9-7 win at No.3 over Jarvinen/Vicary. Prinz got the lone singles win on the day at No.1 over Jenna Hirdle, 6-4, 6-3.
In singles action, sophomore Monica Lyskawa battled Ousi Jarvinen at No.2 but fell short, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Percival was defeated 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 at No.3 by Bindiya Parekh, while Speaker lost to Ellie Vicary at No.4, 6-3, 6-0. At No.6, junior Catherine Koontz fell to Marta Gomez, 6-2, 6-1. The No.5 match-up between Walsh and Laetitia Bourgeon was left unfinished at 7-6, 2-1. At No.2 doubles, Lyskawa and senior Raynie Theis lost to Negrete/Parekh, 8-0.
“We had outstanding efforts from all our girls today,” head coach Dan Silverstein said. “We played very good teams this weekend and now we have to get ready for Georgetown.”
West Virginia hits the road for its next match against the Hoyas on Saturday, April 1, in Washington, D.C. Match time is set for noon.
