Rowing: WVU to Compete in Murphy Cup

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University rowing team kicks off its 2006 season on Saturday, March 25, at the John Murphy Cup Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa., on the Schuylkill River.
Last season at the Murphy Cup, the Mountaineers took second place in the Varsity 8 race with a time of 6:49.11. In the Varsity 4, West Virginia finished fourth in 7:40.08.
Led by senior co-captains Meg Ayers and Caitlin Everett, West Virginia returns a very experienced team with 14 letterwinners from the 2005 season. In the Varsity 8, the Mountaineers return Ayers and Everett as well as seniors Katie Baylor, Laura Goren, Sabrina O'Hara and Brittany Roberts, juniors Robin Reed and Michelle Heier.
In the Varsity 4 boat, West Virginia returns all four rowers from last season. Heier, juniors Nicole Canales and Megan Will, and senior Courtney Sullivan are back for the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers are scheduled to compete in the Varsity 4 as well as the Varsity 8 race. Results can be found throughout the day on Row2k.com.
