MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University men’s soccer forward Jarrod Smith has been called up for action on the New Zealand national team when it takes on Malaysia in Christchurch, New Zealand, on Feb.19 and Feb.23.
Smith was selected to the national team pool in January and was called up today for the two match series against Malaysia.
“We are very excited for Jarrod Smith that he has been selected to play for the full national team,” says WVU head coach Mike Seabolt. “It is a great honor for him personally. The hard work that Jarrod has put in the last three years is starting to pay off and I am confident that he is ready to take on this challenge.”
The Havelock North, New Zealand, native has previous international experience after competing on his homeland’s U-23 national team in 2004 that fell short of qualifying for the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
