MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University wrestling team heads to Athens, Ohio, on Friday, Feb. 10, to face Ohio at the Convocation Center, at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers (4-4, 3-0 EWL) are riding a three-match winning streak into their date with the Bobcats (10-9,1-1 MAC). WVU has not lost since Jan. 14, when it fell to Columbia at the Virginia Duals.
Matt Lebe continues his phenomenal senior season as a Mountaineer ranking No. 2 nationally in the NWCA/Intermat poll at the 157-pound class. The Jeannette, Pa., native is 27-2 on the season heading into this weekend with his only two losses coming to No. 1-rated Alex Tirapelle of Illinois.
Lebe needs just six more wins to catch former West Virginia greats Scott Collins and Jim Akerly for second on the all-time wins list at WVU with 119.
A win for freshman 141-pounder Brandon Rader on Friday will move him into sole possession of 10th-place in wins by a Mountaineer freshman in a season with 20. The Parkersburg, W.Va., native is ranked No. 16 in this week’s NWCA/Intermat poll.
Ohio went 2-1 last weekend in a trio of road dual meets, defeating Virginia Tech (30-16) and James Madison (38-7), while falling to Virginia (18-15). The Bobcats are led by captains Jake Frerichs (157) and Brian Cesear (184) who come in with impressive 13-5 and 20-12 records, respectively.
West Virginia leads the all-time series between the two schools by a 30-12-1 mark and have won the last four meetings.
