MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team travels to No. 5 Florida on Friday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. for a four-team meet that also includes No. 21 Arkansas and No. 22 North Carolina.
Friday’s meet will be televised on tape delay on ESPN2 and will air on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 3:30 p.m. This is the first time that a WVU gymnastics team will appear on national television.
This will also mark West Virginia’s first trip to the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Fla., since the Mountaineers placed fifth at last year’s NCAA Southeast Regional.
West Virginia (5-3) is coming off its best meet of the season having set a new season-high team score (195.1), as well as season highs on all four events with a first-place finish as hosts of a four-team meet on Feb. 5.
The Mountaineers have also improved from their previous team score in every meet this season by a gaping average of 2.325 points. Friday’s meet is WVU’s third road meet of the season, in which the Mountaineers have competed against a combined six Top 25 teams.
West Virginia’s best event is the uneven bars as it is sporting a 25th national ranking on the event based on its 48.244 average score.
Junior Janàe Cox and freshman Mehgan Morris lead the East Atlantic Gymnastics League in the all-around and on the uneven bars, respectively.
Cox, the nation’s 10th-ranked all-around gymnast, boasts a 39.2 season average, while Morris’ 9.8 average on bars is ranked fifth in the Southeast Region.
