MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University baseball team travels to East Carolina’s Clark-LeClair Stadium in Greenville, N.C., to face N.C. State, Virginia Tech and Penn State in this weekend’s Keith LeClair Tournament.
The Mountaineers (3-0) face the Wolfpack (9-1) on Friday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m., the Hokies (2-0) on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 5 p.m. and close out the weekend with the Nittany Lions on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m.
A win against N.C. State would mark the first time that a West Virginia team has started 4-0 since 1966 when the team started 7-0 and finished with a 26-7-1 record.
WVU got off to its best start since 1969 last weekend when it took three games from Bucknell in Winston-Salem, N.C., at Ernie Shore Field. Senior right fielder Stan Posluszny had a big series offensively as he hit .300 with a team-leading six RBI and a home run.
The Mountaineers got a solid performance on the mound by junior transfer Dan Leatherman in the third game against the Bison. The right-handed hurler pitched five scoreless innings of relief, allowing no hits and striking out five.
West Virginia will look to get redemption against each of its opponents this weekend as each came away victorious in its last meeting against the Mountaineers. N.C. State knocked off WVU, 2-1, in the team’s 2001 season opener. Virginia Tech claimed a 20-1 win over the Mountaineers to split the last series in 2004, while Penn State came away with a 4-3 win in 1993.
