MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The BIG EAST conference today announced that West Virginia University soccer defender Devon McTavish has been named one of the 2006 BIG EAST/A ropostale Male Scholar Athlete Award winners.
The award grants McTavish a $2,000 scholarship toward his graduate studies.
A native of Winchester, Va., McTavish wrapped up his career at WVU in 2005 finishing third all-time in career matches played with 75. As a defender he was an instrumental part in the Mountaineer back line that recorded a team-record 12 shutouts last season. For his efforts he was named to the 2005 all-BIG EAST third team and third team all-Mid Atlantic teams.
McTavish showed the ability to play every position on the field at West Virginia besides goalkeeper. He scored 13 goals and four assists in his four years.
McTavish is currently training with Major League Soccer’s D.C. United, who drafted him in last month.
