Women's Basketball: WVU Falls at Marquette

MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – Christina Quaye scored 18 points to lead No. 24 Marquette to a 74-50 victory over West Virginia at the Al McGuie Center in Milwaukee Wednesday night.
Marquette held West Virginia to just one field goal over the remaining 4:58 to boost its record to 8-1, 1-0.
West Virginia had a difficult time shooting the basketball, hitting 19 of 62 overall for 31 percent including just 2 of 22 from 3-point range for 9 percent.
Olayinka Sanni led the Mountaineers with 12 points. LaQuita Owens contributed 10, but was just 4 of 18 shooting including 2 of 13 from 3. The Golden Eagles held a commanding 47-28 advantage on the glass.
Krystal Ellis scored 13 and Erin Monfre added 12 for MU.
Marquette made 30 of 35 from the free throw line while West Virginia was 10 of 14 from the line.
The Mountaineers (5-4, 0-1) return to the WVU Coliseum on Friday night to face Duquesne in a non-conference game that will tip off at 7 pm.
