MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Our coaches set the tone coming back from the Thanksgiving break. Our assignment was full-go on every event. We definitely all came together, rose to the challenge, and got it done!
Floor is really starting to become a strong event for us. Everyone is working; tumbling by themselves and performing it on the floor. Our presentation is coming along really well especially with the new routines we have this year. All of the little things seem to be falling right into place.
Vault has really continued to show improvement every week. This week I felt like everyone really stepped it up. Chelsi’s vaults (Yurchenko full) were awesome, and they kept getting better with every turn. Kiersten’s Yurchenko full is looking better every practice, and Shelly (Yurchenko full as well) will be ready to transition to a hard surface in no time.
Beam was definitely our strongest event this week. The team really seems to have a lot of confidence on beam, no matter what situation is placed in front of us. From triple flights, to front aerials, to double turns, we have it all. I think what separates us a lot from other teams on beam is the diversity of skills we perform. Not to mention we are very consistent: on Friday we hit 16 out of 17 routines which is outstanding!
Bars were the highlight event of the week. It’s really cool to see someone finally accomplish something after working so hard. During the last rotation of Friday’s practice the whole team watched as Rachel did her Tchachevs. All we wanted was to see her catch one before practice was over. Then it happened! She let go of the bar flipped around and caught it. The whole team went nuts screaming at the top of our lungs with Rachel having an ear-to-ear smile, it was a great finish to a great week!
I am so proud of everything that is happening right now, I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen during season. The atmosphere in the gym is so positive and everyone’s minds are in the right place, I don’t think there is anything that can turn it around!
