Rifle: WVU to Host Tennessee Tech

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rifle team will host Tennessee Tech in a non-conference meeting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the WVU Rifle Range. The match against the Golden Eagles will mark the Mountaineers’ final competition of the fall semester.
West Virginia (3-3, 2-3) enters this weekend’s contest after handing N.C. State its first loss of the season on Saturday, Nov. 18. After leading by only 13 points after the smallbore competition, WVU shot impressive air rifle scores to topple the Pack 4532-4479. Lafe Kunkel and Brian Launer were important contributors as they shot 575 points each in smallbore and summed 578 in air rifle, respectively. Freshman Doug McAllister made his first appearance as a counting member of the team as his 572 points in air rifle contributed to the Mountaineer win.
Tennessee Tech is coming off a third place finish at the Jacksonville State Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 18. The team’s 4570 point aggregate score marked their seventh top-three finish this season. Of the Golden Eagles’ seven top-three appearances, two were first place finishes.
West Virginia leads the all-time series with Tennessee Tech 25-3.
