Rifle: WVU Hosts Open Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rifle team hosted an open invitational this weekend at the WVU Rifle Range.
The event was a great opportunity for area juniors and rifle enthusiasts to shoot alongside members of the Mountaineer team.
Thomas Santelli, a high school senior from Washington, Pa., shot the highest smallbore score of the weekend as he totaled 584 points. WVU’s Brian Launer finished second in the competition with 569 points while high school senior Cody Rutter came in third with 568 points.
West Virginia’s Natasha Dinsmore shot the highest air rifle score of the match. The junior summed 582 points, which is also a personal best for her. Rutter, a native of Palmyra, Pa., shot 582 points as well. Santelli came in third with 579 points.
The Mountaineers’ Adam Somers totaled 578 points in the air rifle competition. The score is a new personal best for the senior from Frederick, Md.
“This was a very successful match,” says WVU coach Jon Hammond. “It was good to have it and nice to have a lot of people here to shoot.”
The Mountaineers will next take on Nebraska at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, in Lexington, Ky.
