MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s Dan Mozes and Steve Slaton were named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-America football team, it was announced today.
Mozes anchored a Mountaineer offensive line that helped West Virginia rank second in the country in rushing offense (312.1 yards per game) and third in scoring (38.7 points per game). The Washington, Pa., native joined Wisconsin’s Joe Thomas, Texas’ Justin Blalock, Michigan’s Jake Long and Tennessee’s Arron Spears on the offensive line.
Slaton joins a backfield that includes Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith and California running back Marshawn Lynch.
Slaton has rushed for 1,621 yards for West Virginia this season and currently ranks second in the country averaging 147.4 yards per game. The Levittown, Pa., native is also second in all-purpose yardage (174.9) and sixth in scoring (9.6).
Slaton and Mozes were the only two Big East players named to the Coaches All-America team and it is the first time in school history that two Mountaineer players were named to the same All-America first team.
Slaton and Arkansas Darren McFadden were the only sophomores selected.
